Boys and Worms - Calgary-Houston Children's Photography

There is something about little boys and worms, bugs, frogs, sticky things, muddy things...you get what I mean.  Lucas and Ryan are no exception!  I don't have the pleasure of being part of their day to day life, but after hearing about some of their adventures, I sure wish I was!!  These two are the best of friends and enjoy hanging out together.  Even though my boys aren't that much older, it was great being able to follow these two around the woods as they explored.....that fascination with bugs disappears too quickly!

It was a treat to be able to wander around where their Mom Melinda used to live and hear stories about her growing up years.  I've enjoyed watching these two grow up via photos from Melinda and from our previous photo shoots.  I learned about ants, worms and answered some interesting questions while hanging out with Lucas and Ryan....it was an honor to capture them again at this stage and I loved every minute of our walk!!

Enjoy the photos and please let me know which one is your favorite!

If you'd like to go for a photo walk with me while I capture you or your family or your children, please contact me at carly@ckoop.com and we can set something up!!

These two boys LOVE eachother!
.......and they love their Mom!

Aaaahhhhh worms....every boy's buddy! At this point
I was actually feeling a little sorry for the poor worm!
This is one of my favorites of these two wandering through the woods around Houston.

They said I Do....5 years ago - Calgary Portrait Photography

They met in junior high, ignored each other for awhile, started dating, fell in love, got engaged and time has flown by......a wedding, babies, new house...but one thing hasn't changed. Russell and Karla are in love and they love spending time together. And that was so evident last Saturday as I got to wander around with them and take photos.  As we wandered they reminisced....about their wedding day, their honeymoon and spoke of what's ahead.

I heard tales from their honeymoon - getting stuck in a delta....having to wade through waist high water....coming upon a goose colony where they either had to go thru the nesting grounds or back thru the water. They talked of playing mini golf....shooting through an outhouse.  It was great to spend some time with them and hear them talk about those memories being made in the early stages of their family.

Karla contacted me a few weeks ago asking if I could shoot her and Russell to commemorate their 5th anniversary. I immediately said yes! What a great idea! I had a blast documenting their relationship....so full of encouragement and laughter...these two are best friends. It was clear in the way they joked around with each other and share memories and laughs. Also evident that their love has grown in the last 5 years....I didn't need to ask Russell to hold Karla....he jumped right in and held her tightly....I loved watching Russell's face as he gazed upon his wife...full.of.love.

It was a great way to celebrate their wedding anniversary; getting new images and spending some time alone focussing just on themselves.  I didn't ask them what their plans were for after the shoot, but I'm going to guess a date night occurred!

Enjoy the images...which one is your favorite?

What I'm Really Like

This may come as a surprise to some people...okay most people probably. I enjoy silence and solitude. I'm actually rather introverted.  Being alone fuels me, especially being outside on a walk by myself or with someone that appreciates the silence as well.  I know I know....I give off a good impression of being extroverted....I'm a poser.  I love being with people and laughing and having a good time,(trust me....LOVE to laugh and joke around) but nothing fuels me more than a walk in the woods/park with my camera.  Finding time to slow down, reflect, quiet my heart, focus on what I love...... (ok...I've mentioned before I suck at being reflective, but when it's intentional I suck at it...on my own terms? I'm okay.).

I enjoyed sitting on a log in the sun this morning...just me, the birds and the sound of the Bow River at my feet.  Ahhhh...perfection. As I sat there I was reminded of how the Lord has blessed my life.  In spite of those pity parties that descend upon me I know that I am blessed.  I have been adopted and am the daughter of an awesome God.  I have an amazing husband that loves me and tells me every day.  I have two special little men in my life that have brought so much joy and fulfillment that at times my heart feels like it will burst.  I've been blessed with many friends (far and near) that love me in spite of who I am and are willing to put up with my randomness.  My family as crazy as they are....I'd be lost without them, they've seen me at my best and worst and have cheered me along the whole way! I've got a pretty good part time gig shooting people (and not in the Evelyn Salt sense!) and am looking forward to what's ahead.  I've taken a self imposed break from shooting the last few weeks with the exception of instagram...it's been good to look at why I do what I do and why I do it and I'll share more on that in the next week or so.

This scene below was just a little of what I grabbed with my camera this morning....definitely need to plan a few more Mondays like this!
