Reflecting - How I hate it - 2011 Engagement Photos - My favorite shots

So I guess it's the end of the year....goodbye 2011, HELLO 2012! And since it is the passing of yet another year I guess I should reflect. (oh...how I. hate. reflecting.) Yup, you read that right, anytime the word reflection comes up I cringe.  I'm not very introspective or reflective.  When someone asks me to explain why I feel the way I do I start to panic. Why do I feel that way? BECAUSE I DO!!! Seriously just let me be shallow okay?

I digress, this past year has been full. In a good way full.  I've loved the opportunities that my camera has brought me and I was excited to look over my engagement images from this last year.  I've met some amazing couples and made some great friends....this post could go on forever so I've limited myself to only several favorites. Enjoy.

My 2012 calendar still has some space, so if you know of someone is dying to have me as their photog, just pass along my website and we'll go from there.  Thanks!

The Strachan Family - Calgary Family Photography

I had the honor of spending the afternoon at Fish Creek Park with the Strachan family on Boxing Day.  It was a gorgeous afternoon and the park was full of other people taking advantage of the warm weather.  I had to dodge runners and cyclists while scouting locations.  This was a fun afternoon.  I must admit that I was looking forward to meeting up with this family and get some long awaited hugs!

I had a great time wandering around the park, visiting and shooting this family as they celebrated Christmas with a long visit.  They aren't together very often and so it was imperative to get some group photos.  Sharon had won a photo session I'd donated to a silent auction and still had the certificate and handed it over before we started yesterday.....talk about organized!! ;-)

Seriously it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with these families, I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did!

Enjoy the images!

I. am. blessed.

2011 is quickly coming to a close and I have so much to be thankful for, but I think I'll reserve it for another day.  We finally got ourselves organized enough to grab 10 minutes for a family photo this year. I know, I know....I spout off how important photos are and yet struggle to get shots of my family!  When we were up in PG over Thanksgiving my good friend Lisa offered to snap a few shots of us....and I'm ever thankful that she did!  We had beautiful light, so much so that when Lisa suggested moving to a different location for some more shots I refused and said I wanted more at the same location from the same direction....perfect natural lighting for our family photos. Wowza!  Lisa has helped me out many times with weddings in the last couple years (here and here) and I'm so thankful for her skill and photo prowess!  Thank Lisa!

There is no better gift for me than some images of those I love the most in the world. My three guys.  They mean the world to me and my life is so much richer because of them and their love for me.  I am the princess in my house and relish those moments when I hear "I love you".
I. am. blessed.

Sue and her boys......Calgary Family Photography

"Carly.....I need some school photos....can we squeeze a shoot in sometime?"
YOU BET!!!  We took advantage of a no school day and hit Fish Creek Park.  In spite of it being a dreary day Sue and her boys worked the brown grass, leafless trees and made it look amazing! Of course we expanded the photo shoot to a family shoot because everyone needs an updated family photo!!

Sue lives down the street from me and what started out as two moms walking to school in the same direction everyday has morphed into a great friendship.  We spend Tuesday mornings together around our kitchen tables working.  Both of us work from home and often spoke of needing some companionship while working. So we made Tuesdays our work day! It's been great, some work does get accomplished, but I think that working on our friendship has seen greater returns.  Laughter, tears, daydreams, ideas all shared over our laptops, sketch books, crafts and lots of coffee are all part of our Tuesday mornings.  I'm so very thankful for Sue and her boys, we are very blessed to have them just down the street.

I had a blast with these guys at the park and so did Tys and Ry! Because it was a no school day my boys tagged along and did a great job of not being distractions, or they did a great job until we got to the river. Let's see....5 boys....a river that is half frozen and a bazillion rocks....what should I have expected?  Thankfully we left Fish Creek with dry feet, although I was worried a few times!

Enjoy the photos Sue....thanks for being such a great friend!!

Share some comment love!!!

This is sooooo a Jaxon face! Definitely one of my faves!!

There was a disagreement before we left....Roan wanted to wear this jacket, but Sue wanted something a little less busy.  They both won.....but I promised I'd take a shot or two of his coat.  This is Roan.

Classic Sue.  Crinkle the nose and huge smile!

I loved this shot of Aiden as he just wandered around the riverbank.

Sue and her boys.  A great great crew to hang out with!
